Nurturing Inquiry and Agency: Insights from My PYP Learning Journey

Image
Reflecting on My Evolving PYP Practices My understanding of PYP principles has grown significantly, especially regarding nurturing inquiry and agency. Initially, I viewed learner agency as merely offering choices. Now, I realize it involves making learners responsible for their own learning and decisions, encouraging them to ask questions, and guiding them to act on their learning. Balancing guided learning with independent exploration has provided me with new insights on structuring my lessons. The emphasis on student ownership and inquiry-based learning has shifted my perspective from leading the learning process to creating spaces where learners lead their own journeys. Applying the Learning in My Teaching Through this workshop, I've found practical ways to incorporate more learner-driven experiences while considering differentiation. I’ve realized I can create more opportunities for learners to make choices in the classroom, tailoring those choices ...

Reflecting on such lessons is helping me identify areas for improvement, and I’m now more committed to creating a holistic learning experience for my learners. The insights gained from workshops, classroom experiences, and collaboration with colleagues have truly expanded my grasp of the principles that make the PYP so effective. Applying Learning from the Workshop - This workshop has given me invaluable strategies to enhance my teaching. Going forward, I’m eager to further integrate vario...

Bringing PYP to Life: Fostering International-Mindedness and Global Awareness in the Classroom

Evolving My Understanding of PYP Principles and Practices As I continue to explore the Primary Years Programme (PYP), I’ve realized how essential international mindedness is in everyday teaching, not just in theory. Activities like using pen pals, virtual field trips, different cultural dances, various forms of art, and playing diverse music are powerful tools for promoting global awareness. For example, when learners create art inspired by different cultures or perform traditional dances, they deepen their appreciation for diversity and develop open-mindedness and creativity. Encouraging students to share their own identities through music, dance, or personal stories also builds cultural awareness. I now see more clearly how the Learner Profile connects to both academic and personal growth. Working with parents and the school community is also vital, allowing me to make learning more practical and meaningful. Applying Learning in My Teaching Incorporating more internatio...
